Apparel:
Trainees are expected to wear professional or semi-professional aerobic wear for the training. Please make sure to invest in some good looking aerobics/dance pants and something decent for a top. For men, we offer black abada capoeira pants at the online DSE store (see top of webpage) for $50. Upon certification and creation of a class, instructors will be expected to wear the DSE or DanceSport Endurance logos when they instruct, which you will want to do anyway because it is such a cool logo! Also, BRING SOMETHING WARM for the training. There will be times in between dances that we will sit and talk, and the room can get cool then, so you will want to have a sweater of some sort, and possibly leg warmers.
Shoes:
You will need to be able to swivel without hurting your knees, so I highly recommend that you have one of the two following types of shoes for teaching DSE:
1. Regular athletic shoes modified at a shoe repair shop to have Suede placed onto the bottoms. If you are in the DC area, one reliable shop for such a service is the Alexandria Shoe Repair and Leather Service in Alexandria at 124 North Fayett Street, Alexandria, VA (703-549-8133). Ask for Barbara and tell her Todd sent you to get the “Suede modification” to your shoes.
2. Dance Sneakers. These won’t provide as much support as modified athletic shoes, but they do provide swivel so will be adequate for the short term.
Training: 2 days of intensive training to become either an Assistant Instructor or an Instructor. You will be trained in ballroom and Latin dancing, aerobic leadership, health and fitness. You will be tested to determine your level of proficiency. All applicants will must work hard and test successfully. Those who test for Assistant Instructor will be able to attend later camps at a discount rate and test again for Instructor level. Each Training Camp will feature new lessons in the various ballroom and latin dances of DanceSport Endurance, so some attendees will want to repeat the camps just for the chance to learn more ballroom, latin, salsa, and Argentine Tango. Depending upon your level of proficiency at teaching DSE, you will achieve one of the following:
Assistant Instructors have completed at least one weekend Instructor Training weekend but are not fully certified to teach or setup classes independently. They may require improved mastery of either the dance or leadership component of instruction and will work with a Senior or Master instructor to become fully certified.
Certified Instructors have successfully completed an Instructor Training weekend, demonstrating sufficient mastery of the DSE routines and presentation ability to start teaching immediately. NOTE: ALL Certified Instructors will receive a “Provisional” rating until they provide a video of themselves teaching a class.
Senior Instructors have taught DSE for several years and can train both Assistant and Certified Instructors.
Master Instructors are certified to train and test all other instructors.

RETURNING INSTRUCTORS
Those Assistant Instructors and Instructors who wish to return to a second camp to increase their skills may do so for $100 two times.
